How to get more Google reviews for your local business

A simple system for getting more reviews, from Day Web Design in San Tan Valley. Questions? Call (480) 531-3048.

Quick answer: The best way to get more Google reviews is to ask every happy customer, right after the job, with a direct link to your review form. Make it one tap: send the link by text or email, put it on your invoices and website, and thank people by name when they leave a review. Reply to every review, good or bad, and never buy reviews or offer rewards for them.

When someone searches for a plumber, painter, tree service or mover, the Google reviews are often the first thing they look at. More recent, detailed reviews help customers trust you, and they are one of the signals Google uses for local results. AI search tools also read reviews and what people say about a business. Here is a simple system any local service business can use.

1. Ask at the right moment

The best time to ask is right after the job is done and the customer is happy: the tree is down and the yard is clean, the water heater is working, the last box is in the house. Ask in person first. A simple "If you were happy with the work, a Google review would really help my business" works better than a script. Then follow up with the link the same day while the job is fresh.

2. Send your direct review link

Most people will not search for your business, find the profile and hunt for the review button. Your Google Business Profile has a share link that opens the review form directly. Copy it once and use it everywhere:

  • In a short thank-you text after the job
  • In your invoice or receipt email
  • On a card or QR code you leave with the customer
  • On your website, next to your reviews

Before you send it out, open the link yourself and make sure the review box shows your business name.

3. Make it personal and easy

A text that uses the customer's name and mentions the job gets more replies than a generic message. Keep it short, include the link and do not ask more than once or twice. Some customers are not sure what to write, so it can help to say something like "a sentence or two about how the job went is perfect."

4. Follow Google's rules

Do not buy reviews, write reviews for yourself, or offer discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews. Google's policies do not allow it, and reviews that break the rules can be removed. Ask every customer the same way instead of only asking the ones you think will leave five stars. Honest reviews from real customers are what you want.

5. Reply to every review

Thank customers by name and mention the job when you can, like "Thanks, Maria, glad the new faucet is working great." Replies show future customers that a real person runs the business and cares about the work. For a bad review, stay calm, keep it short, apologize for the experience and offer to make it right by phone. Never argue in public.

6. Show your reviews on your website

Your website should show your Google rating and some real reviews, with a link to your Google Business Profile so visitors can read more and leave their own. Real customer words on your service and city pages build trust, and they give people a reason to call you instead of the next company. Mentioning the details customers praise, like being on time or cleaning up, helps too. Our small business website checklist covers what else your site needs.

7. Keep your Google Business Profile up to date

Reviews work best on a complete profile. Keep your hours, phone number, services, service area and photos current, and add your website link. A website and a Google Business Profile work best together: your profile sends people to your website, and your website backs up your profile with details, reviews and an easy way to call. See do I need a website if I already have a Google Business Profile?

8. Make it a habit

A steady trickle of new reviews is better than a big burst once a year. Build the ask into how you close out every job, and check your profile every week or two to reply to new reviews. Over time, the reviews add up.

How Day Web Design helps

Every site we build is set up to help you show up on Google and in AI search, with local SEO pages for each service and city you serve, Google schema markup, an answer-first FAQ page, an llms.txt file and Google Search Console setup. Your site can show your Google rating and reviews and link to your Google Business Profile, and the contact form sends new leads straight to your phone or email. Each month you get a report showing your site traffic and how many calls and form requests your site brought in.

We build your demo site first, so you see it before you pay a dime. After that it is $99/month with $0 down, your first month is free, there is no contract, and if you don't love it in the first 30 days, you pay nothing. See pricing, our customers and the FAQ, or request a free demo. Prefer to talk? Call or text (480) 531-3048.
