How to get your local business found in ChatGPT and AI search

What helps AI search tools recommend your business, from Day Web Design in San Tan Valley. Questions? Call (480) 531-3048.

Quick answer: AI search tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers recommend businesses they can clearly understand. Give them a website that says, in plain words, what you do, where you do it and how to reach you: one page for each main service and city, an FAQ page that answers real customer questions in the first sentence, schema markup, an llms.txt file, a robots.txt that lets AI tools read your pages, and a Google Business Profile with steady reviews. Nobody can honestly guarantee a spot, but you can make your business easy to find and easy to recommend.

More customers are asking AI tools questions like "who is a good plumber in Queen Creek?" or "best tree service near me." Instead of a list of ten links, they get a short answer that names a few businesses. If your business is not described clearly anywhere online, it is hard for those tools to mention you. Here is what you can do about it.

1. Say exactly what you do and where

AI tools and Google both look for clear, specific information. A homepage that only says "quality service you can trust" does not tell anyone that you trim palm trees in Surprise or repair trailer doors in Phoenix. Spell it out: your business name, your main services, the cities you serve, your phone number and your hours. Keep those details the same everywhere they appear online, from your website to your Google Business Profile and directory listings.

2. Give each service and city its own page

One long page that lists everything is hard to match to a specific question. Separate pages for each main service, and for each city you serve, make it clear that you do that job in that town. Each page should describe the real work, what is included and how to get a quote, not the same paragraph with the city name swapped in.

3. Answer real questions, answer first

AI answers are built from text that answers a question directly. An FAQ page where each answer starts with the answer, in one or two plain sentences, is easy for AI tools to quote. Use the questions customers actually ask you on the phone, like how fast you can come out, whether you clean up after the job or how to get a price. Short how-to guides on common problems in your trade help too, like the ones in our guides.

4. Add schema markup

Schema markup is code on your pages that labels the facts for search engines and AI tools: this is the business name, this is the phone number, these are the services, this is a question and its answer. Visitors never see it, but it removes the guesswork for the tools reading your site.

5. Add an llms.txt file and let AI tools in

An llms.txt file is a short plain-text file on your site that tells AI search tools what your business does, what services you offer and where you work. A robots.txt file that allows AI search tools to read your pages matters too. If your site blocks them, they cannot learn about you from it. See what is llms.txt? in our FAQ

6. Keep your Google Business Profile complete

Your Google Business Profile is one of the first places AI tools and Google look for local businesses. Keep your hours, phone number, services, service area and photos current, and link it to your website. See do I need a website if I already have a Google Business Profile?

7. Keep the reviews coming

Reviews tell people, Google and AI tools what customers think of your work. Ask every happy customer, send your direct review link and reply to every review. Our guide on how to get more Google reviews walks through it.

8. Make sure Google can find every page

Set up Google Search Console, submit your sitemap and check that your pages are indexed. A fast, mobile-friendly website helps too, since most local searches happen on phones. The small business website checklist covers the basics.

How Day Web Design helps

We build every site to give it the best chance: local SEO pages for each service and city you serve, Google schema markup, an FAQ page written so AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers can understand it, an llms.txt file and a robots.txt that lets AI search tools read your site. We also set up Google Search Console and submit your sitemap. Each month you get a report showing your site traffic and how many calls and form requests your site brought in.

We build your demo site first, so you see it before you pay a dime. After that it is $99/month with $0 down, your first month is free, there is no contract, and if you don't love it in the first 30 days, you pay nothing. See pricing, our customers and the FAQ, or request a free demo. Prefer to talk? Call or text (480) 531-3048.
